Welcome back to Uncharted 1! In part four, we analyze our fourth gameplay video where Francis Drake's diary leads Nathan underground as he continues to search for the treasure... and a way out. However, as Nathan closes in, so do Roman and Navarro. In this episode, we talk about Roman's accent (did he always sound like that?), Nathan's dramatics, and WHAT was that noise? Also discussed, is the relationship between Roman and Eddy, as well as the surprising fate of Francis Drake.
Don't forget to watch or play along - gameplay is posted weekly on our YouTube channel! We'll continue to play Uncharted: Drake's Fortune and analyze it in our podcast - join us in the coming weeks as join Nathan Drake on the trail to El Dorado.

00:00:00 --> 00:00:03 In this episode, was he always British? Can we
00:00:03 --> 00:00:07 be any more disrespectful? And what was that
00:00:07 --> 00:00:11 noise? I like how you thought about the British
00:00:11 --> 00:00:14 part because I literally just typed that into
00:00:14 --> 00:00:16 my notes and I'm like, we're of the same mind.
00:00:17 --> 00:00:22 It's not just British. He sounds stuck up. Thank
00:00:22 --> 00:00:23 you for coming back for more replay reviews.
00:00:24 --> 00:00:26 My name is Leah. And my name is Kathy. We are
00:00:26 --> 00:00:28 two friends who are here to replay, review, and
00:00:28 --> 00:00:31 analyze your favorite video games. And since
00:00:31 --> 00:00:33 Kathy has never seen the games before, it helps
00:00:33 --> 00:00:36 me view them through her fresh eyes, almost like
00:00:36 --> 00:00:37 I'm discovering them again for the first time.
00:00:37 --> 00:00:39 We hope it will be a similar experience for you.
00:00:47 --> 00:00:49 Anything you want to say before we start in on
00:00:49 --> 00:00:53 Chapter 14? Nope. Nathan stumbles upon an area
00:00:53 --> 00:00:55 where he can overhear Eddie and Roman arguing.
00:00:55 --> 00:00:57 Eddie is saying the island is cursed and that's
00:00:57 --> 00:01:00 why his entire army is being killed by Nathan
00:01:00 --> 00:01:04 and Nathan alone. Roman sends him packing. How
00:01:04 --> 00:01:07 does Roman have so much pull over Eddie? And
00:01:07 --> 00:01:09 I don't think it's just money. I don't understand.
00:01:09 --> 00:01:12 Maybe Eddie owes him something because no one
00:01:12 --> 00:01:15 in their right minds would be okay with no matter
00:01:15 --> 00:01:17 how much money they're getting to have so many
00:01:17 --> 00:01:22 of their men die. Okay, chapter 15. Nathan continues
00:01:22 --> 00:01:25 solving puzzles until he unlocks a secret doorway.
00:01:25 --> 00:01:30 And this pathway leads to a building that hides
00:01:30 --> 00:01:33 the vault. But it turns out Roman and Navarro
00:01:33 --> 00:01:36 are already at that building. That makes me question
00:01:36 --> 00:01:38 Sully a little bit because he like sent them
00:01:38 --> 00:01:41 out on a wild goose chase, but it was correct.
00:01:41 --> 00:01:44 It's too much of a coincidence. So either Roman
00:01:44 --> 00:01:48 and his guy know that Sully isn't reliable and
00:01:48 --> 00:01:51 they just... Or like, yeah, yeah, whatever. And
00:01:51 --> 00:01:53 then they do their own thing and they happen
00:01:53 --> 00:01:56 to be correct about it, which then begs the next
00:01:56 --> 00:02:00 question is how did they know? Or Sully is two
00:02:00 --> 00:02:03 -timing them and just feeding information to
00:02:03 --> 00:02:06 them without Nathan knowing, but not enough to
00:02:06 --> 00:02:09 get himself killed. Which I don't think that's
00:02:09 --> 00:02:12 likely, though. Yeah, I'd be okay with it, though,
00:02:12 --> 00:02:13 if it was. You know, like, he's just trying to
00:02:13 --> 00:02:16 stay alive. I wouldn't hold it against him. Yeah.
00:02:17 --> 00:02:19 Sully does create a distraction to help Nathan.
00:02:19 --> 00:02:22 And he's able to regroup with Sully and Elena,
00:02:22 --> 00:02:25 where they solve another puzzle to reveal another
00:02:25 --> 00:02:28 secret passage. And this is when he just like
00:02:28 --> 00:02:31 tosses the skeletons on the floor and like throws
00:02:31 --> 00:02:34 a head, a skull. And I don't know, that just
00:02:34 --> 00:02:38 seems really disrespectful to me. Agreed. Nathan
00:02:38 --> 00:02:41 and Elena get trapped inside, but Nathan shoves
00:02:41 --> 00:02:44 Sully out to save him and tells him to head back
00:02:44 --> 00:02:47 to the library. Why did Sully take so long to
00:02:47 --> 00:02:50 move through it and stay there? Like, why was
00:02:50 --> 00:02:52 he not being quick about his feet and rolling
00:02:52 --> 00:02:55 forward or backwards? Yeah. You know what I mean?
00:02:55 --> 00:02:57 And he's really mad about Nathan shoving him
00:02:57 --> 00:02:59 on his ass when he was saving him from being
00:02:59 --> 00:03:01 locked inside this. You could have died, dude.
00:03:02 --> 00:03:05 Catacombs. Yeah. This episode is going to be
00:03:05 --> 00:03:09 so short. We've been recording for seven minutes
00:03:09 --> 00:03:11 and we're already on the last scene. I'm okay
00:03:11 --> 00:03:14 with shorter episodes. Yeah. At least for this
00:03:14 --> 00:03:17 game. It's like, I don't want to say it's simple.
00:03:17 --> 00:03:21 It's straightforward. And there's so many movies
00:03:21 --> 00:03:25 that exist of the same theme that it's okay.
00:03:25 --> 00:03:28 We kind of know what to expect. And it's nothing
00:03:28 --> 00:03:30 against it. I actually like it. There's just,
00:03:30 --> 00:03:32 yeah, there's not a lot of theorizing to do.
00:03:33 --> 00:03:37 Anyway, chapter 16? Mm -hmm. I have a note. How
00:03:37 --> 00:03:40 the F did that open the gate? And I don't know.
00:03:41 --> 00:03:43 You jumping across things and pulling the bows,
00:03:43 --> 00:03:48 I think, that unleashed two doors. Maybe. Obviously,
00:03:48 --> 00:03:50 I was not thrilled with that part of the gameplay.
00:03:51 --> 00:03:54 Eddie seems to have decided to stay and fight
00:03:54 --> 00:03:57 for the treasure despite being fired. He busts
00:03:57 --> 00:03:59 in and challenges Nathan in this underground
00:03:59 --> 00:04:02 city -like area that they're in. And then my
00:04:02 --> 00:04:12 next note is, what was that noise? After many
00:04:12 --> 00:04:14 shootouts, we make it to a circular room where
00:04:14 --> 00:04:17 we find the body of Francis Drake in surprisingly
00:04:17 --> 00:04:20 good condition. How does hair not disintegrate
00:04:20 --> 00:04:23 in that situation? How is there so facial hair
00:04:23 --> 00:04:27 and a mustache? Didn't make sense. Or how did
00:04:27 --> 00:04:29 bugs not get to it? I have questions. Me too.
00:04:29 --> 00:04:33 But Nathan drops his ring by him and says, Wasted
00:04:33 --> 00:04:37 his life for nothing. See, I have a lot of issues
00:04:37 --> 00:04:39 at this part. Why would you leave? The ring of
00:04:39 --> 00:04:42 something with value and sentiment on this skeleton
00:04:42 --> 00:04:45 where, you know, people are going in here. They're
00:04:45 --> 00:04:47 just going to take the ring and maybe do something
00:04:47 --> 00:04:49 with it. Why wouldn't you keep that in your possession?
00:04:49 --> 00:04:52 Especially if it's a Drake ring and that's my
00:04:52 --> 00:04:56 ancestors. I agree. Dramatic. Number two, it's
00:04:56 --> 00:04:59 like he only cares that Drake was his ancestor
00:04:59 --> 00:05:01 because he thought he did something great. And
00:05:01 --> 00:05:04 like discovering that he died right here suddenly
00:05:04 --> 00:05:07 means this ancestor sucks. Right. I had some
00:05:07 --> 00:05:10 issues with that. I don't know. I think Nathan's
00:05:10 --> 00:05:13 a little disrespectful in this episode. I do
00:05:13 --> 00:05:16 appreciate how Elena doesn't crowd his space
00:05:16 --> 00:05:20 and make it about her or just fake sympathy and
00:05:20 --> 00:05:23 hug him and whatnot. And she's like, are you
00:05:23 --> 00:05:26 ready? Instead of saying, can you hurry the f***
00:05:26 --> 00:05:31 up? We're gonna die. Agree. Well, that's it for
00:05:31 --> 00:05:34 part four of gameplay. There's one part left.
00:05:34 --> 00:05:37 I mean, any final thoughts for you? This is the
00:05:37 --> 00:05:41 bridge until the final climax of the entire game.
00:05:41 --> 00:05:44 I'm excited to see what goes on in wrapping this
00:05:44 --> 00:05:49 up. Audacity on three. Three, two, one. Thank
00:05:49 --> 00:05:51 you for listening, and don't forget to send in
