That’s It…? | MAFIA II | Part 5

Welcome back to MAFIA II! In part five, when an ally is attacked, Vito acts without thinking of the fallout he may be causing. Later, he gets one last chance to make things right, but is fully aware of the cost?

In this episode, we judge Vito's floppy running and laugh at him for being out of bath time. More seriously, we talk about Joe making things worse again (surprise, surprise), Vito burning what few bridges he has left, and he and Joe carrying out a certain assassination. Also, why does Vito suddenly care about his dad? Don't forget to watch or play along - gameplay is posted weekly on our YouTube channel! We'll continue to play MAFIA II and analyze it in our podcast - join us in the coming weeks as we follow Vito's path through the Mafia.

00:00:00 --> 00:00:02 In this episode, what the hell are those tigers?
00:00:03 --> 00:00:06 Are we fighting or are we playing Marco Polo?
00:00:06 --> 00:00:10 And why'd she add a spin to that dive? Unnecessary.
00:00:13 --> 00:00:16 It's still funny even today. I know, I'm just
00:00:16 --> 00:00:21 thinking about it. We'll add it in. Thank you
00:00:21 --> 00:00:23 for coming back from our replay reviews. My name
00:00:23 --> 00:00:25 is Leah. And my name is Kathy. We are two friends
00:00:25 --> 00:00:28 who are here to replay, review, and analyze your
00:00:28 --> 00:00:30 favorite video games. And since Kathy has never
00:00:30 --> 00:00:32 seen the games before, it helps me view them
00:00:32 --> 00:00:35 through her fresh eyes, almost like I'm discovering
00:00:35 --> 00:00:37 them again for the first time. We hope it will
00:00:37 --> 00:00:46 be a similar experience for you. So, scene one.
00:00:46 --> 00:00:49 With their operation compromised, Vito, Joe,
00:00:49 --> 00:00:51 and Henry scramble to clean up their mess, but
00:00:51 --> 00:00:54 things quickly go wrong. So it's chapter 13,
00:00:55 --> 00:00:57 Exit the Dragon. We're at Joe's apartment, September
00:00:57 --> 00:01:01 24th, 1951. It's only been two days since they
00:01:01 --> 00:01:04 sold off the drugs. My first note is straight
00:01:04 --> 00:01:10 away, ass. Yeah. Yeah. And then my note is, right
00:01:10 --> 00:01:14 after that, is they're inviting Vito to join
00:01:14 --> 00:01:17 them in the bathroom. But you're not allowed
00:01:17 --> 00:01:19 to go in there, but why the invite? I tried.
00:01:21 --> 00:01:24 What's with the invitation and the lockout, Joe?
00:01:25 --> 00:01:28 Anyway, Vito answers a phone call. It's Henry.
00:01:28 --> 00:01:30 He says that Falcone found out about the drug
00:01:30 --> 00:01:34 deal and wants his cut, 60 grand. So they don't
00:01:34 --> 00:01:36 have enough left to pay Bruno the loan shark
00:01:36 --> 00:01:38 back. Then Henry says to meet him at the park
00:01:38 --> 00:01:41 to figure things out. Can we pause and talk about
00:01:41 --> 00:01:44 how Vito picks up the phone and answers it? Again.
00:01:45 --> 00:01:47 At least it wasn't his mother on the line this
00:01:47 --> 00:01:51 time. Yeah. And while he's on the phone, that's
00:01:51 --> 00:01:55 when we notice there are tiger -faced cushions
00:01:55 --> 00:01:58 by the front door of Joe's apartment. Uh -huh.
00:01:58 --> 00:02:04 But, like, not clip art. Real tiger. Pasted on
00:02:04 --> 00:02:10 a cushion. It's so uncanny. Jarring. I don't
00:02:10 --> 00:02:14 want to sit on it, that's for sure. Vito asks
00:02:14 --> 00:02:16 if Falcone knows that they were involved, and
00:02:16 --> 00:02:18 Harry says, I don't think so. I don't know if
00:02:18 --> 00:02:22 I believe that. So he and Joe arrive at the park
00:02:22 --> 00:02:24 to find Henry being attacked by Mr. Wong's men.
00:02:26 --> 00:02:28 Henry's dead. The money's gone. He's not just
00:02:28 --> 00:02:32 dead. He is slashed to death. That was so violent
00:02:32 --> 00:02:35 and so unnecessary and caught me off guard. And
00:02:35 --> 00:02:37 right before that, what also caught me off guard
00:02:37 --> 00:02:41 was Vito's stupid run. He's clearly never really
00:02:41 --> 00:02:44 ran effectively in his life. That's why he got
00:02:44 --> 00:02:50 caught by the police. Truly. Twice. I don't know
00:02:50 --> 00:02:52 if we should wait to do a so long for Henry because
00:02:52 --> 00:02:54 we're going to learn more about his character.
00:02:55 --> 00:02:57 Do you want to do it now? Well, I guess we'll
00:02:57 --> 00:03:00 shortly know some more information. Maybe at
00:03:00 --> 00:03:02 the end of the scene. We'll do it soon. Yeah.
00:03:03 --> 00:03:06 In the meantime, so long, Henry. My first question
00:03:06 --> 00:03:09 is, why did they give chase after these men instead
00:03:09 --> 00:03:12 of rushing Henry to the hospital? We don't know
00:03:12 --> 00:03:14 if Henry was actually dead and there could have
00:03:14 --> 00:03:17 been a fighting chance. Like this just, you saw
00:03:17 --> 00:03:21 this just happen. Why wouldn't you try? Why didn't
00:03:21 --> 00:03:22 they ask Henry of more questions like who did
00:03:22 --> 00:03:25 this to you? Or what kind of information do I
00:03:25 --> 00:03:28 need to know next? Or how can I avenge your death?
00:03:29 --> 00:03:32 Instead, they chase after Wong's car and tail
00:03:32 --> 00:03:33 him to his restaurant where they decide to go
00:03:33 --> 00:03:37 on guns blazing thanks to Joe. Vito really needs
00:03:37 --> 00:03:41 to stay away from Joe at this point. So they're
00:03:41 --> 00:03:43 trying to fight their way to Wong's office and...
00:03:44 --> 00:03:47 I'm pretty sure, I think it's at 7 minutes 28
00:03:47 --> 00:03:50 seconds, one of the tongs says, Come on, Marco
00:03:50 --> 00:03:56 Polo. Which is hilarious to me. I didn't catch
00:03:56 --> 00:03:59 that, but I like how it bounces out from some
00:03:59 --> 00:04:01 of the racial slurs we heard previous, which
00:04:01 --> 00:04:04 I took offense to, and I usually don't take offense
00:04:04 --> 00:04:08 as easily. Yeah, it's just been an unnecessary
00:04:08 --> 00:04:12 amount. Just like the freaking lady in Joe's
00:04:12 --> 00:04:16 apartment. They do fight their way to Wong's
00:04:16 --> 00:04:18 office where they demand to know why Henry was
00:04:18 --> 00:04:23 killed. Then we learn that Henry was a government
00:04:23 --> 00:04:26 informant, like a rat, I guess they would say.
00:04:27 --> 00:04:30 I think he worked with narcotics. So it's like,
00:04:30 --> 00:04:34 okay, this is kind of like Tommy in the first
00:04:34 --> 00:04:38 game. Yeah. It doesn't make sense the way he
00:04:38 --> 00:04:40 approached the situation where he's just trying
00:04:40 --> 00:04:42 to get money and he's selling more dope, which
00:04:42 --> 00:04:45 shouldn't that be against everything you're doing?
00:04:45 --> 00:04:48 He wouldn't have been so happy to sell drugs
00:04:48 --> 00:04:54 with Vito and Joe. Are they sure that he really
00:04:54 --> 00:04:57 is working with the government? I hear what you're
00:04:57 --> 00:05:00 saying. My feeling is that he started out as
00:05:00 --> 00:05:04 an informant because if we go back to that scene
00:05:04 --> 00:05:08 where he was like, I'm here because of the war.
00:05:08 --> 00:05:11 Basically, my father told me to work for Clemente.
00:05:11 --> 00:05:13 And Vito's like, why is your English so good?
00:05:14 --> 00:05:18 So I think that's just his cover story. And so
00:05:18 --> 00:05:21 he came in as an undercover cop. And he's dealing
00:05:21 --> 00:05:25 the drugs just to, I would say, figure out the
00:05:25 --> 00:05:27 channels, the pathways, so that they can then
00:05:27 --> 00:05:30 shut them down. That makes sense with the why
00:05:30 --> 00:05:32 his English, because we are always wondering
00:05:32 --> 00:05:34 why. Okay, I didn't even put two and two together.
00:05:35 --> 00:05:38 I was just thinking that I don't think Henry
00:05:38 --> 00:05:40 would be so happy to be recruiting people to
00:05:40 --> 00:05:42 be spreading more drugs out there. But I guess
00:05:42 --> 00:05:46 during that period of time, it makes sense. And
00:05:46 --> 00:05:48 it makes more sense why he paid Vito immediately
00:05:48 --> 00:05:50 after that one job, all these things. I think
00:05:50 --> 00:05:54 he's just trying to get people on his side, comfortable
00:05:54 --> 00:06:02 with him. Maybe I'm just too rose -tinted glasses
00:06:02 --> 00:06:06 that he truly is friends with Vito and Joe, maybe?
00:06:07 --> 00:06:10 He could be. Those montage scenes, he was way
00:06:10 --> 00:06:12 too happy to be part of the gang. And I'm kind
00:06:12 --> 00:06:14 of surprised that Vito and Joe weren't more angry
00:06:14 --> 00:06:17 that he was a rat. I think it could be both.
00:06:17 --> 00:06:19 I think he could like them and even like doing
00:06:19 --> 00:06:22 this. But he knows where his loyalties have to
00:06:22 --> 00:06:26 lie. But yeah, Vito and Joe don't believe it.
00:06:26 --> 00:06:29 Which leads to more conversation where Wong says
00:06:29 --> 00:06:31 that they weren't responsible for the earlier
00:06:31 --> 00:06:33 stick up. He says, why would we take such a stupid
00:06:33 --> 00:06:37 risk and destroy our own factory? I can't think
00:06:37 --> 00:06:39 of the phrase, but it's like when you fart and
00:06:39 --> 00:06:41 you'd be like, who farted? Like you bring your
00:06:41 --> 00:06:43 own place just to make yourself look not guilty.
00:06:44 --> 00:06:46 Yeah. I don't know. I don't know if I believe
00:06:46 --> 00:06:49 Wong. But it won't matter soon because he refuses
00:06:49 --> 00:06:51 to tell them where the money is and Joe just
00:06:51 --> 00:06:55 kills him. Vito's not too happy again. And then
00:06:55 --> 00:06:57 there's no way, they just lose the cops by running
00:06:57 --> 00:07:00 around the corner. This is the same cops who
00:07:00 --> 00:07:03 were immediately there and on you during the
00:07:03 --> 00:07:07 robbery. They're the same ones that shout at
00:07:07 --> 00:07:11 us whenever they get eyes on Vito. Suspect is
00:07:11 --> 00:07:13 about six feet tall, dark hair, medium build.
00:07:14 --> 00:07:17 Okay, so they go back to Joe's and they rehash
00:07:17 --> 00:07:19 their position. Henry's dead, the money's gone,
00:07:20 --> 00:07:22 and the Tongs will think Falcone sanctioned their
00:07:22 --> 00:07:25 attack, which equals... War. And they still don't
00:07:25 --> 00:07:28 want to believe Henry was a rat. Why are they
00:07:28 --> 00:07:30 always struggling with money? I don't know. Because
00:07:30 --> 00:07:32 they're stupid. I don't know. Like, maybe if
00:07:32 --> 00:07:35 Joe wouldn't have spent it on those stupid tiger
00:07:35 --> 00:07:37 cushions, he would have some money. And the rest
00:07:37 --> 00:07:40 of his remodel. Don't forget about the flamingos
00:07:40 --> 00:07:44 in the background. Oh my god, yeah. Chapter 14,
00:07:44 --> 00:07:47 Stairway to Heaven. Oyster Bay, September 25th,
00:07:47 --> 00:07:51 1951. So it's the next day. Joe calls Vito to
00:07:51 --> 00:07:53 get his butt in gear. They need to figure out
00:07:53 --> 00:07:57 how to get 55 grand for Bruno, and Joe says he's
00:07:57 --> 00:08:00 got a high -paying job from Eddie. They meet
00:08:00 --> 00:08:03 up, and he tells Vito more about it. He says,
00:08:03 --> 00:08:05 we're just going to drive there, pop some guy,
00:08:05 --> 00:08:11 drive away. Simple. Is it ever simple? Has it
00:08:11 --> 00:08:14 once been simple? Joe's simple. That's what it
00:08:14 --> 00:08:18 is. He says, then, that Eddie says it's a favor
00:08:18 --> 00:08:20 for some family from another city. Unfinished
00:08:20 --> 00:08:23 business. Ratted them out to the feds. Says here
00:08:23 --> 00:08:25 they want to give us a message before we do it.
00:08:25 --> 00:08:28 So then the conversation shifts towards yesterday.
00:08:29 --> 00:08:32 Not mentioning it to Eddie. Seems like they maybe
00:08:32 --> 00:08:36 have skated under the radar. And then we arrive
00:08:36 --> 00:08:40 at the location of the hit. And it's a little
00:08:40 --> 00:08:44 familiar. How are you doing, Kathy? I'm like,
00:08:44 --> 00:08:47 at this point, like, wait a second. Wait a second.
00:08:47 --> 00:08:49 Wait, wait, wait, wait. That's my reaction at
00:08:49 --> 00:08:53 this point. I'm still in a bit disbelief that
00:08:53 --> 00:08:55 I didn't connect it from Mafia 1, that end scene
00:08:55 --> 00:08:58 that was like, oh my god, where Tommy gets shot
00:08:58 --> 00:09:01 by two people. Never made the connection in all
00:09:01 --> 00:09:05 this time that the two guys we saw from the previous
00:09:05 --> 00:09:08 game, now I know their names, and it is Vito
00:09:08 --> 00:09:11 and Joe. Who would have thought this is the overlap?
00:09:11 --> 00:09:13 This is the connection. I have so many questions
00:09:13 --> 00:09:17 how Eddie knows Salieri and his guys. I did not
00:09:17 --> 00:09:19 expect this to be happening, and I wish we got
00:09:19 --> 00:09:21 a... We need to set up a mic when we watch this
00:09:21 --> 00:09:25 because I was in shock. These last three chapters
00:09:25 --> 00:09:29 just keep throwing things at us. Huge things.
00:09:30 --> 00:09:34 I honestly, I love this connection. The problem
00:09:34 --> 00:09:36 for me is that I already don't really care about
00:09:36 --> 00:09:41 Vito and I hate Joe. So this just doesn't help.
00:09:41 --> 00:09:43 It'd be so much better if they gave us reasons
00:09:43 --> 00:09:46 to like Vito and Joe and then they kill Tommy
00:09:46 --> 00:09:48 and then we're like disappointed and shocked.
00:09:49 --> 00:09:51 exactly there was nothing redeeming about them
00:09:51 --> 00:09:55 but even if there were this really would have
00:09:55 --> 00:09:58 said dude i don't like you anymore and we already
00:09:58 --> 00:10:00 don't like them so this is making me kind of
00:10:00 --> 00:10:03 like not hate them but yeah it kind of makes
00:10:03 --> 00:10:06 me confirm that they're never going to be mother
00:10:06 --> 00:10:10 respecters in my eye because i respected tommy
00:10:10 --> 00:10:12 and they they killed him without asking questions
00:10:12 --> 00:10:15 when you bring up a valid point because they're
00:10:15 --> 00:10:17 like not wanting to believe that henry was working
00:10:17 --> 00:10:20 with the feds But then on the drive to kill Tommy,
00:10:20 --> 00:10:22 they're like, what'd this guy do? Oh, he ran
00:10:22 --> 00:10:24 it out to the feds. And Rita was like, well,
00:10:24 --> 00:10:26 then he f***ing deserved it. But he could be
00:10:26 --> 00:10:28 Henry to someone else, you know? It's like, how
00:10:28 --> 00:10:30 come Henry, you don't want to believe it, but
00:10:30 --> 00:10:32 this guy, you just believe it instantly to the
00:10:32 --> 00:10:36 point of killing him. Irish federal agent guy
00:10:36 --> 00:10:37 that Tommy was talking to, I forget his name.
00:10:38 --> 00:10:41 He kept his word because Tommy was under government
00:10:41 --> 00:10:44 protection. We see them get chased off by the
00:10:44 --> 00:10:47 feds, so. I like that. I like knowing that they
00:10:47 --> 00:10:50 held up their end of the deal. They failed here,
00:10:50 --> 00:10:54 but at least Tommy had a lot longer and happier
00:10:54 --> 00:10:57 life than he could have. But I do wish we got
00:10:57 --> 00:10:59 more interactions with the Fed. It's very one
00:10:59 --> 00:11:05 -sided within Mafia Triad and the Irish. We know
00:11:05 --> 00:11:07 the Fed's one big player in this game. We'll
00:11:07 --> 00:11:09 see it in the next scenes. I just wish we got
00:11:09 --> 00:11:13 more of that side so we understand. Mafia 1 did
00:11:13 --> 00:11:15 it well because we did have some of those interactions
00:11:15 --> 00:11:17 when Tommy's going through his life story. But
00:11:17 --> 00:11:20 had there been more of that and maybe we see
00:11:20 --> 00:11:23 more of what Henry was doing on the side and
00:11:23 --> 00:11:25 it could still have Vito as the main character.
00:11:25 --> 00:11:30 I just wanted more. After dropping off Joe, Vito
00:11:30 --> 00:11:33 heads to the port to see if Derek has any work.
00:11:33 --> 00:11:35 He tells him that Frank's organizing a sit down
00:11:35 --> 00:11:37 with the other bosses and took almost all of
00:11:37 --> 00:11:41 his guys as bodyguards. So he needs Vito's help
00:11:41 --> 00:11:45 in discouraging a strike at the port. Does not
00:11:45 --> 00:11:47 go as planned. One of the workers recognizes
00:11:47 --> 00:11:51 Vito's name and had known his father. And they
00:11:51 --> 00:11:54 tell Vito that Derek killed his father. At which
00:11:54 --> 00:11:57 point Vito aims his gun at Derek. And then Steve
00:11:57 --> 00:11:59 just like straight up admits to drowning him
00:11:59 --> 00:12:04 more or less, right? Yeah. What the hell? Why
00:12:04 --> 00:12:08 does Vito care? Vito obviously didn't respect
00:12:08 --> 00:12:11 his parents at all. And he knew that his dad
00:12:11 --> 00:12:14 was taking a lot of debt and he didn't care for
00:12:14 --> 00:12:17 him. He didn't really respect him. All of a sudden,
00:12:17 --> 00:12:20 the game wants us to be like, he's such a great
00:12:20 --> 00:12:23 son. No, he's not. He didn't care about his mom.
00:12:23 --> 00:12:25 Right. He didn't care. I don't think he liked
00:12:25 --> 00:12:28 his dad. Exactly. And that's kind of what I feel
00:12:28 --> 00:12:30 like what pushed him into going into the mafia
00:12:30 --> 00:12:34 was to not be like him. And maybe now he's realizing,
00:12:34 --> 00:12:37 oh, the people like me are the people that kill
00:12:37 --> 00:12:40 my father and other people's fathers. So I understand
00:12:40 --> 00:12:43 him being upset, but I don't think that he would
00:12:43 --> 00:12:45 have come to that understanding so immediately.
00:12:46 --> 00:12:49 And then Derek says, you took an oath. Loyalty
00:12:49 --> 00:12:51 to the family is greater than loyalty to our
00:12:51 --> 00:12:54 own families. Vito has been living up to that
00:12:54 --> 00:12:55 until this point. So like you said, I just don't
00:12:55 --> 00:13:00 understand. And then Derek dies very anticlimatically.
00:13:00 --> 00:13:04 Yeah. I missed it. We were chatting and I missed
00:13:04 --> 00:13:06 his death. And we're like, wait a second, did
00:13:06 --> 00:13:11 he die? That's how... Amazing, it was. We need
00:13:11 --> 00:13:13 to watch it because I have a note and I don't
00:13:13 --> 00:13:14 know what it's in reference to, but for some
00:13:14 --> 00:13:16 reason I can't open a new tab on my Chrome right
00:13:16 --> 00:13:18 now, so you have to pull it up. I'll pull it
00:13:18 --> 00:13:21 up. It should be about, I don't know, maybe like
00:13:21 --> 00:13:26 35, 36 minutes? 35, okay. Okay, so that's the
00:13:26 --> 00:13:29 line I was thinking about when he says, I'd spent
00:13:29 --> 00:13:31 my whole life trying not to make the same mistakes
00:13:31 --> 00:13:35 my old man did. Then I find out I'm following
00:13:35 --> 00:13:40 in his footsteps. How? Calm down. I don't remember
00:13:40 --> 00:13:45 your father murdering a mafia port owner guy.
00:13:46 --> 00:13:50 More so than that, too. It's that Vito has been
00:13:50 --> 00:13:52 consistently murdering people without asking
00:13:52 --> 00:13:54 too many questions, and his dad wasn't going
00:13:54 --> 00:13:57 around shooting, killing people. Do you just
00:13:57 --> 00:13:58 want to be different, or do you want to be a
00:13:58 --> 00:14:01 better person? Because you're not doing the second
00:14:01 --> 00:14:05 one of those things. Vito is way too dramatic.
00:14:06 --> 00:14:08 He quickly moves on from this realization about
00:14:08 --> 00:14:10 his father when he steals money from Derek's
00:14:10 --> 00:14:12 desk. Do we need to do this so long for Derek?
00:14:12 --> 00:14:14 All I have is that he eats a lot. He seems kind
00:14:14 --> 00:14:18 of shitty. Mother f***ing about him. Nothing
00:14:18 --> 00:14:22 redeeming. Quick one. Vito then earns the rest
00:14:22 --> 00:14:24 of the money by bringing cars to Brewski in the
00:14:24 --> 00:14:27 junkyard and then heads to Joe's. But after checking
00:14:27 --> 00:14:30 in a few times, Vito is unable to find him. I
00:14:30 --> 00:14:34 immediately went to Joe's dead. Yeah, same. He's
00:14:34 --> 00:14:37 gone. Or he took the money and ran. I wish that
00:14:37 --> 00:14:40 that is what happened. He's waiting for the other
00:14:40 --> 00:14:42 shoe to drop. I'd rather have that happen, honestly.
00:14:43 --> 00:14:46 Instead, six hours later, there's still no sign
00:14:46 --> 00:14:48 of Joe. So Vito heads to the Falcon to see if
00:14:48 --> 00:14:51 he's with Eddie. In this conversation with Eddie,
00:14:52 --> 00:14:53 he has to pretend he has no idea about Henry.
00:14:54 --> 00:14:56 And then it sounds like the Tongs are threatening
00:14:56 --> 00:14:58 Vinci and will likely move on to Falcone due
00:14:58 --> 00:15:01 to the massacre carried out by we -know -who.
00:15:01 --> 00:15:04 I don't understand how Vito can get away with
00:15:04 --> 00:15:06 so many things in this game so far, even up through
00:15:06 --> 00:15:10 here. Bringing in the rat, but then not being
00:15:10 --> 00:15:12 held accountable for it. Because he vouched for
00:15:12 --> 00:15:15 him. Eddie should have killed Vito at that point.
00:15:15 --> 00:15:17 The game should have ended there, in my opinion.
00:15:18 --> 00:15:21 I want to like him, but I can't. Is this one
00:15:21 --> 00:15:24 of our most disliked characters, like main characters
00:15:24 --> 00:15:26 so far? I'm trying to think back to. I think
00:15:26 --> 00:15:28 so. And we'll come back to it because, yeah,
00:15:28 --> 00:15:29 we'll come back to it at the end of the game.
00:15:30 --> 00:15:33 They're making it hard for me to relate to Vito
00:15:33 --> 00:15:37 right now. Next, Vito heads to Giuseppe's on
00:15:37 --> 00:15:39 the hunt for Joe. He tells Vito that Joe is here,
00:15:39 --> 00:15:41 but some of Vinci's guys came and took him away.
00:15:42 --> 00:15:45 Mr. Vinci wanted a word with him. Vito arrives
00:15:45 --> 00:15:47 at Vinci's bar and promptly gets knocked out.
00:15:47 --> 00:15:51 He then wakes up to find himself tied up next
00:15:51 --> 00:15:54 to Joe. And then Vinci approaches and he's talking
00:15:54 --> 00:15:56 about all the stuff that's gone down and says
00:15:56 --> 00:15:58 that the city's out of control. He's getting
00:15:58 --> 00:16:01 threatened. And he just wants them to tell him
00:16:01 --> 00:16:03 what's going on. But lucky for them, after getting
00:16:03 --> 00:16:05 tortured a tad, they're able to break free and
00:16:05 --> 00:16:09 manage to escape. And Vito takes Joe to El Greco
00:16:09 --> 00:16:11 because I think he has broken ribs or something.
00:16:12 --> 00:16:16 And I think... Is this where the lady jumps out
00:16:16 --> 00:16:20 of the way? Yes. Yes. I had... Okay, before that,
00:16:21 --> 00:16:23 there's a delete screen when you hit a red car
00:16:23 --> 00:16:27 and then you yank the woman out and then... And
00:16:27 --> 00:16:30 then one scene over, you run over another woman
00:16:30 --> 00:16:35 with your car. I know. And then I push her. But
00:16:35 --> 00:16:39 she dives into a wall and then does like a corkscrew
00:16:39 --> 00:16:43 barrel roll. Like, what? What is she doing? It's
00:16:43 --> 00:16:46 hilarious. It's so dramatic. We laughed. We had
00:16:46 --> 00:16:48 to go back and rewatch it and we laughed way
00:16:48 --> 00:16:50 too hard at it. It was really funny for some
00:16:50 --> 00:16:54 reason. It's still funny today. The fact that
00:16:54 --> 00:16:56 I'm trying to tamper down my giggles right now.
00:16:57 --> 00:17:01 So he heads to deliver the money to Bruno, Vito
00:17:01 --> 00:17:05 does. The exchange goes well, and then Bruno
00:17:05 --> 00:17:09 asks him his name. And first of all, I don't
00:17:09 --> 00:17:11 understand why Vito just gives his name to people
00:17:11 --> 00:17:14 like this. First and last. Secondly, to our point
00:17:14 --> 00:17:16 that you made earlier, I don't understand why
00:17:16 --> 00:17:18 Vito suddenly seems to not hate his father anymore.
00:17:19 --> 00:17:21 Because we learn here that Bruno is the loan
00:17:21 --> 00:17:24 shark that had him in debt. And why do you need
00:17:24 --> 00:17:26 to give your name out to someone? So my issue
00:17:26 --> 00:17:30 with that is that he probably feels like he's
00:17:30 --> 00:17:32 finally made it up high enough in the mafia chain
00:17:32 --> 00:17:34 of command that he can give out his name and
00:17:34 --> 00:17:37 people are afraid of him. But it's not that situation.
00:17:38 --> 00:17:43 He's not that memorable. And I don't understand
00:17:43 --> 00:17:48 also why he's feeling so made of honor. That's
00:17:48 --> 00:17:52 how I feel like he's feeling right now. And I
00:17:52 --> 00:17:54 don't like it. It doesn't make sense. It doesn't
00:17:54 --> 00:17:55 make sense at all, but what Bruno says makes
00:17:55 --> 00:17:58 sense. He says, I didn't make him borrow that
00:17:58 --> 00:18:00 money now, did I? Just like I didn't make you.
00:18:01 --> 00:18:03 I like Bruno for that. I don't like what he does,
00:18:03 --> 00:18:07 but I kind of like how he pushes Vito and tells
00:18:07 --> 00:18:11 him that, get off your high horse. Are we ready
00:18:11 --> 00:18:15 for the final chapter of the game? Mm -hmm. Chapter
00:18:15 --> 00:18:20 15. Per Aspera Ad Astra. I did Google it. I found
00:18:20 --> 00:18:22 that it means either to the stars through difficulties
00:18:22 --> 00:18:25 or through the roughness of the road to the stars,
00:18:26 --> 00:18:29 which fits because we go to a planetarium or
00:18:29 --> 00:18:32 something. So stupid, but okay. Yeah, okay. So
00:18:32 --> 00:18:35 we're in Oyster Bay the next day, the 26th of
00:18:35 --> 00:18:38 September, 1951. We start with some Vito voiceover,
00:18:38 --> 00:18:41 which is a change. He says, The truth is going
00:18:41 --> 00:18:43 to come out sooner or later. And then we were
00:18:43 --> 00:18:45 going to have Falcone after us along with the
00:18:45 --> 00:18:50 Chinese and Vinci. And whose fault is that? I
00:18:50 --> 00:18:52 don't understand how he's never done any self
00:18:52 --> 00:18:56 -reflection, be like, this is my fault. And did
00:18:56 --> 00:19:00 he rescue his photo album before he jumped out
00:19:00 --> 00:19:02 the window of his burning house? Yeah, that made
00:19:02 --> 00:19:05 no sense, too, now that you say that. How did
00:19:05 --> 00:19:08 he have that? Maybe there's something left after
00:19:08 --> 00:19:10 the fire, I don't know. But I would like to know
00:19:10 --> 00:19:14 how that photo book is there. So Vito then gets
00:19:14 --> 00:19:16 a call from Eddie, who says that Falcone wants
00:19:16 --> 00:19:19 to see him at the planetarium. on his way out
00:19:19 --> 00:19:22 a car stops him and inside we see leo so i guess
00:19:22 --> 00:19:24 he didn't leave who says just get in the damn
00:19:24 --> 00:19:27 car now and then he explains half our guys are
00:19:27 --> 00:19:30 dead half of mr chu's guys are dead who is in
00:19:30 --> 00:19:32 the car with them and now the feds are breathing
00:19:32 --> 00:19:35 down everybody's necks because of you if it wasn't
00:19:35 --> 00:19:37 for me you would have already been taken care
00:19:37 --> 00:19:41 of so you're gonna listen to what i have to say
00:19:41 --> 00:19:44 and you're gonna listen good he confirms that
00:19:44 --> 00:19:47 henry was working with the feds And that's why
00:19:47 --> 00:19:49 they're so hot and bothered. And then Leo says,
00:19:49 --> 00:19:51 but I don't forget my friends. I called in a
00:19:51 --> 00:19:54 few favors. Got you one more chance to make this
00:19:54 --> 00:19:56 right. And tells him he needs to get rid of Falcone.
00:19:56 --> 00:20:00 Otherwise, everyone wants Vito dead. One quick
00:20:00 --> 00:20:01 question. I don't understand how getting rid
00:20:01 --> 00:20:03 of Falcone is going to solve any of their issues.
00:20:03 --> 00:20:05 You know what I mean? Like, what if Falcone's
00:20:05 --> 00:20:09 loyal men want to seek vengeance? I don't understand
00:20:09 --> 00:20:12 how killing one person is going to solve all
00:20:12 --> 00:20:16 their problems. Vito shoots his way. To Falcone
00:20:16 --> 00:20:19 at the planetarium. And Falcone says, this is
00:20:19 --> 00:20:21 who they send, this is an insult. You really
00:20:21 --> 00:20:23 think they're just going to let you walk after
00:20:23 --> 00:20:29 everything you did? Fair question. What's going
00:20:29 --> 00:20:32 to happen to Leo after he reveals that he's not
00:20:32 --> 00:20:35 dead? I mean, yes, Henry didn't do his job, but
00:20:35 --> 00:20:38 does no one else check each other's work? Isn't
00:20:38 --> 00:20:39 that going to get more people in trouble? And
00:20:39 --> 00:20:41 isn't that going to be putting another target
00:20:41 --> 00:20:45 on Leo's back? Well, I think he's okay because
00:20:45 --> 00:20:49 it was Falcone that wanted him dead. Okay. So
00:20:49 --> 00:20:52 I think if Falcone's the one we're taking out,
00:20:52 --> 00:20:55 then no one has an issue with Leo being alive.
00:20:55 --> 00:21:00 Okay. That's how I see it. Then Joe comes out
00:21:00 --> 00:21:04 of nowhere and puts a gun to Vito's head. What
00:21:04 --> 00:21:06 do we think? I wasn't surprised because this
00:21:06 --> 00:21:08 entire time I've been waiting for the other shoe
00:21:08 --> 00:21:13 to drop that Joe turns on Vito. What was... surprising
00:21:13 --> 00:21:17 was that joe doesn't turn on veto and they keep
00:21:17 --> 00:21:19 their bromance thing and i think this is at this
00:21:19 --> 00:21:22 point i realize this game really wants us to
00:21:22 --> 00:21:27 feel like it's joe and veto bromance forevers
00:21:27 --> 00:21:32 forevers forever which is similar to tommy and
00:21:32 --> 00:21:33 the two other guys which already forgot their
00:21:33 --> 00:21:38 names but it doesn't work i just yeah it doesn't
00:21:38 --> 00:21:40 it doesn't work The fact that I'm surprised that
00:21:40 --> 00:21:43 Joe would be loyal is a pretty big indicator
00:21:43 --> 00:21:47 how we see him interact with Vito throughout
00:21:47 --> 00:21:50 this entire game. I wanted Vito to turn on Joe.
00:21:50 --> 00:21:53 That's what I wanted. Because how many shitty
00:21:53 --> 00:21:56 situations has Joe put him into? That would have
00:21:56 --> 00:21:58 felt so good. And I would have been like, finally,
00:21:58 --> 00:22:01 Vito. You're saying things clearly. You're not
00:22:01 --> 00:22:04 being stupid. But no, he's listening to Falcone
00:22:04 --> 00:22:07 who says, they're using you, Vito. Just like
00:22:07 --> 00:22:10 Clemente used you. Just like I used you. Just
00:22:10 --> 00:22:12 like that rat f*** Henry used you. You vouched
00:22:12 --> 00:22:14 for that piece of s***, brought him into my house,
00:22:14 --> 00:22:17 and now, you dumb f***, you're gonna pay for
00:22:17 --> 00:22:20 it. And this is where he commands Joe to kill
00:22:20 --> 00:22:24 Vito, but instead, they turn on Falcone. I think
00:22:24 --> 00:22:28 it's dumb. Joe sucks. Like you said, I'd rather
00:22:28 --> 00:22:30 he did betray Vito, because then I might feel
00:22:30 --> 00:22:32 a little bit bad for Vito, and I might like him
00:22:32 --> 00:22:34 a little bit more. I feel like they're trying
00:22:34 --> 00:22:37 to have us respect Joe a bit more, but that didn't
00:22:37 --> 00:22:41 happen. No. I don't mean to bash this game so
00:22:41 --> 00:22:45 much, but the way the storytelling and what Vito
00:22:45 --> 00:22:48 does, not good. It's just these two characters.
00:22:48 --> 00:22:50 I just don't understand what they're... I don't
00:22:50 --> 00:22:53 understand what they want from us with these
00:22:53 --> 00:22:56 two characters, you know? But anyway, they kill
00:22:56 --> 00:22:59 him. Vito has, I think it's kind of cringey,
00:22:59 --> 00:23:03 his little, I killed for my family. I killed
00:23:03 --> 00:23:09 for my country. But this one is for me. One question.
00:23:10 --> 00:23:13 Why does he hate Falcone so much? You screwed
00:23:13 --> 00:23:17 up, Vito. What do you expect? Of course he's
00:23:17 --> 00:23:20 gonna want you dead. He has killed for himself
00:23:20 --> 00:23:23 to further himself up the chain in the mafia
00:23:23 --> 00:23:28 business, so how's this for himself? I don't
00:23:28 --> 00:23:30 know. How's this for Leo? Just like... Him killing
00:23:30 --> 00:23:33 Tommy is for Eddie. Him killing everyone else
00:23:33 --> 00:23:35 for themselves. Even him killing Derek was for
00:23:35 --> 00:23:40 his dad. So stop pretending like this is for
00:23:40 --> 00:23:43 yourself and you're happy to do it. And maybe
00:23:43 --> 00:23:44 we're missing something that Falcone did, but
00:23:44 --> 00:23:46 I just don't understand the hate. You should
00:23:46 --> 00:23:48 have expected him to want to kill you after everything
00:23:48 --> 00:23:52 you've done. Leo did say this is your last chance.
00:23:52 --> 00:23:55 So this is not for yourself in that way. This
00:23:55 --> 00:23:57 is... You're doing it because Leo told you to
00:23:57 --> 00:24:00 be a good boy and kill the guy. That's true.
00:24:00 --> 00:24:03 He did tell him to do it very sternly. Shut up,
00:24:03 --> 00:24:06 Vito. What are you even saying? Oh, gosh. Well,
00:24:06 --> 00:24:08 do we need to do this so long for Falcone? I
00:24:08 --> 00:24:10 mean, I don't feel like we know him that well,
00:24:10 --> 00:24:14 but. I didn't. I don't feel right to. Yeah. To
00:24:14 --> 00:24:18 say something. I mean, I would say mother. But
00:24:18 --> 00:24:20 it seems like everyone in the mafia is doing
00:24:20 --> 00:24:24 the drug stuff. So it seems pretty standard for
00:24:24 --> 00:24:27 them. Yeah. mother maybe mother neutral who knows
00:24:27 --> 00:24:30 yeah do we need to go back to henry now that
00:24:30 --> 00:24:32 we have all the information about him do so long
00:24:32 --> 00:24:39 i struggle with this because present day i think
00:24:39 --> 00:24:41 he would be a mother because no matter what i
00:24:41 --> 00:24:44 even if you're trying to prevent the spread of
00:24:44 --> 00:24:47 drugs i can't be okay with you spreading more
00:24:47 --> 00:24:51 drugs to stop something but in this in the context
00:24:51 --> 00:24:55 of this game where everyone is is doing drugs
00:24:55 --> 00:24:57 and that's your standard baseline i think he
00:24:57 --> 00:25:01 would be a bit over mother neutral into the mother
00:25:01 --> 00:25:03 respecter category there's something about him
00:25:03 --> 00:25:05 that i like more than veto but i can't pinpoint
00:25:05 --> 00:25:09 what it is that i like more about him than veto
00:25:09 --> 00:25:13 maybe it's that he let leo live and maybe that
00:25:13 --> 00:25:17 was because of his federal background i can't
00:25:17 --> 00:25:18 pinpoint what it is i don't know if you were
00:25:18 --> 00:25:22 able to identify exactly why he's a professional
00:25:23 --> 00:25:28 Yeah. He does what he's asked for two jobs, I
00:25:28 --> 00:25:30 think. I mean, I kind of get your point about
00:25:30 --> 00:25:33 spreading drugs, but I think he more stepped
00:25:33 --> 00:25:37 in where someone else would have. And you kind
00:25:37 --> 00:25:40 of have to follow the path to know where it goes.
00:25:41 --> 00:25:44 And so I think that that is what would try to
00:25:44 --> 00:25:48 justify that. On the mafia side of things, he
00:25:48 --> 00:25:51 seems pretty loyal. He does what he's asked.
00:25:51 --> 00:25:53 He's good to Vito and Joe. I just feel like he's
00:25:53 --> 00:25:57 a professional. He's good at what he does. Yeah,
00:25:57 --> 00:25:59 that's the thing. I think you nailed it. He's
00:25:59 --> 00:26:02 professional without screwing things over and
00:26:02 --> 00:26:05 causing bigger issues. Mm -hmm. And of all the
00:26:05 --> 00:26:08 people that have jumped family lines, he had
00:26:08 --> 00:26:11 a reason. I'm afraid to die because you're going
00:26:11 --> 00:26:13 to kill me, so I'm going to join you. That makes
00:26:13 --> 00:26:15 sense. And as a cop, it also makes sense because
00:26:15 --> 00:26:17 it's like, this is the perfect opportunity for
00:26:17 --> 00:26:19 me to now go in here and infiltrate this family.
00:26:20 --> 00:26:23 Why did everyone else... jump ship all the time
00:26:23 --> 00:26:25 i just think he was better than anyone else yeah
00:26:25 --> 00:26:28 he had a brain on him i think that's that that
00:26:28 --> 00:26:32 he had a brain and he was using it so i think
00:26:32 --> 00:26:34 for me he has to be a mother respecter especially
00:26:34 --> 00:26:37 in the context of this game so if you do and
00:26:37 --> 00:26:41 joe leave best of friends and leo and friends
00:26:41 --> 00:26:44 are waiting for them they say we're going to
00:26:44 --> 00:26:48 the cat house why at a time like this But Leo
00:26:48 --> 00:26:51 needs to talk to Vito, so the rest of them take
00:26:51 --> 00:26:53 a different car. At some point, the car with
00:26:53 --> 00:26:57 Joe takes a turn. Vito looks at Leo like, huh?
00:26:58 --> 00:27:03 And then he says, Joe wasn't part of our deal.
00:27:06 --> 00:27:10 That's so accurate with how I picture Vito doing.
00:27:13 --> 00:27:20 I was not expecting that. but he says joe wasn't
00:27:20 --> 00:27:23 part of our deal do we need to do so long for
00:27:23 --> 00:27:26 joe i'm feeling it's pretty pretty likely he's
00:27:26 --> 00:27:30 dead without seeing joe dead there's a chance
00:27:30 --> 00:27:33 that they're in mafia 3 be like hold up you know
00:27:33 --> 00:27:36 we're missing a villain let's bring in joe so
00:27:36 --> 00:27:38 yeah i don't know i'm comfortable saying that
00:27:38 --> 00:27:43 he's dead if he was mother With a tiny bit of
00:27:43 --> 00:27:46 maybe, like, mother neutral for not turning on
00:27:46 --> 00:27:50 Vito. Yeah. But predominantly mother, especially
00:27:50 --> 00:27:56 how he treats women. I need our listeners to
00:27:56 --> 00:27:59 know, during this entire last 30 seconds, one
00:27:59 --> 00:28:02 minute of this game, the entire conversation
00:28:02 --> 00:28:04 happening in your apartment is me going, what
00:28:04 --> 00:28:07 do you mean? And you're like, but wait. And I'm
00:28:07 --> 00:28:10 like, but what do you mean? It's over. That's
00:28:10 --> 00:28:14 how it ends. I don't understand. I didn't see
00:28:14 --> 00:28:17 like the red bar at the bottom of the video to
00:28:17 --> 00:28:20 see when the video ends. I was not expecting.
00:28:20 --> 00:28:23 I was like, what do you mean? Yeah, there should
00:28:23 --> 00:28:26 be something else. How can it end like that?
00:28:27 --> 00:28:31 So this is where. Okay. Here are my closing thoughts
00:28:31 --> 00:28:35 for now. Ending is a bit weak for me. Feels kind
00:28:35 --> 00:28:37 of sudden. Feels kind of rushed. And this is
00:28:37 --> 00:28:40 why this ending is why the only way that I would
00:28:40 --> 00:28:43 like Vito as a character is if this game sets
00:28:43 --> 00:28:46 him up to be a villain in the next game, which
00:28:46 --> 00:28:48 I know nothing about. Because he's been through
00:28:48 --> 00:28:51 a lot of conditioning, mental and physical, to
00:28:51 --> 00:28:54 make him a good villain. And he has reasons to
00:28:54 --> 00:28:56 be angry now, especially if they take Joey to
00:28:56 --> 00:28:59 kill him. And so I feel like that's the only
00:28:59 --> 00:29:02 way to justify these characters and this abrupt
00:29:02 --> 00:29:05 ending is if this leads into Vito becoming a
00:29:05 --> 00:29:07 villain. Because I would love to see him as a
00:29:07 --> 00:29:09 villain. He's already kind of the bad guy for
00:29:09 --> 00:29:11 killing Tommy. If that's the case, I want to
00:29:11 --> 00:29:15 add that maybe one of Tommy's kids or grandkids
00:29:15 --> 00:29:18 become the person who's our main lead and tries
00:29:18 --> 00:29:21 to take down Vito. I would like to see that happening.
00:29:22 --> 00:29:24 At the same time, I'm kind of done seeing Vito.
00:29:24 --> 00:29:26 I don't even want to see him as a villain. I
00:29:26 --> 00:29:28 don't care for him. I don't really like his thought
00:29:28 --> 00:29:31 process, so I don't know how well I would...
00:29:31 --> 00:29:33 appreciate him being a villain yeah the way i
00:29:33 --> 00:29:36 see it is like he would snap after this and so
00:29:36 --> 00:29:39 we wouldn't be seeing the like poor decision
00:29:39 --> 00:29:41 making it would just be like he's let loose and
00:29:41 --> 00:29:45 now he's basically just like evil okay so it'd
00:29:45 --> 00:29:49 be a different veto because he's snapped i wish
00:29:49 --> 00:29:52 we had more conclusion on joe i don't like implying
00:29:52 --> 00:29:56 that he's dead but not confirmed i just i feel
00:29:56 --> 00:29:58 like there could be so many things happening
00:29:58 --> 00:30:01 within the next minute That they shouldn't have
00:30:01 --> 00:30:03 closed it here. They already made us think Joe
00:30:03 --> 00:30:07 was dead earlier, so I don't know. Who knows
00:30:07 --> 00:30:09 what the third game will be like, but I kind
00:30:09 --> 00:30:11 of hope they killed him, and I kind of hope Vito
00:30:11 --> 00:30:15 becomes a villain. I kind of wish that Vito and
00:30:15 --> 00:30:19 Joe died in the end. Maybe they kill Falcone
00:30:19 --> 00:30:23 too, but they don't make it out alive. Yeah.
00:30:23 --> 00:30:26 I want to be the cop in the next game. I want
00:30:26 --> 00:30:29 to be the undercover fed in the next game. I
00:30:29 --> 00:30:31 want to... be on the other side because i'm kind
00:30:31 --> 00:30:33 of sick of the video games of killing police
00:30:33 --> 00:30:35 and making the police look bad people i want
00:30:35 --> 00:30:40 to see their perspective veto is unlikable enough
00:30:40 --> 00:30:44 that we'd be okay with being another player killing
00:30:44 --> 00:30:48 him yeah in the sense of law enforcement and
00:30:48 --> 00:30:51 whatnot i don't feel anything for this game and
00:30:51 --> 00:30:57 that's i even felt more about how things ended
00:30:57 --> 00:31:00 and maybe some lasting effects from previous
00:31:00 --> 00:31:03 games even like the impatient or outlast it made
00:31:03 --> 00:31:07 me think about the ending and it bothered me
00:31:07 --> 00:31:09 for a few days because i'm like just thinking
00:31:09 --> 00:31:11 about it and thinking through like what happened
00:31:11 --> 00:31:15 what it is what yeah go on in the next game if
00:31:15 --> 00:31:19 there was but this game like okay whatever i
00:31:19 --> 00:31:23 guess it's over yeah so different than red dead
00:31:23 --> 00:31:27 redemption like our thoughts and our emotions
00:31:27 --> 00:31:29 about the end of the game that's what happens
00:31:29 --> 00:31:32 when you give us an emotional character that
00:31:32 --> 00:31:37 we can connect to versus a stupid trashy bad
00:31:37 --> 00:31:42 boy yeah it's pretty upsetting to me that i feel
00:31:42 --> 00:31:47 like i wasted a lot of our time with this game
00:31:47 --> 00:31:49 like not not in the sense that i like what we
00:31:49 --> 00:31:52 do in the sense that if i was the person playing
00:31:52 --> 00:31:54 this game and I played it, I'd be like, what
00:31:54 --> 00:31:57 a waste of 10 hours. The whole rest of the game
00:31:57 --> 00:31:59 would feel better if we liked Vito. Like, they
00:31:59 --> 00:32:01 just really dropped the ball on the character
00:32:01 --> 00:32:05 here. They made him too unlikable. Give him some
00:32:05 --> 00:32:08 more reasonings for doing what he does, at least.
00:32:08 --> 00:32:10 Exactly. And what should have happened was we
00:32:10 --> 00:32:13 should have been Henry. The fact that we like
00:32:13 --> 00:32:19 Henry the most. Yeah. Not a good sign. That's
00:32:19 --> 00:32:22 the only character that has... a struggle for
00:32:22 --> 00:32:24 where he is and we don't even find out about
00:32:24 --> 00:32:26 that struggle until the end of the game. I don't
00:32:26 --> 00:32:30 even have words. No. I'm excited to see what
00:32:30 --> 00:32:33 the next game is though because I mean they did
00:32:33 --> 00:32:35 that right because I need some answers about
00:32:35 --> 00:32:38 Vito. So they at least are making me want to
00:32:38 --> 00:32:42 play the third game. I think we've got a lot
00:32:42 --> 00:32:45 of processing to do before we record this summary.
