…aliens? | The Forest | Part 2

Happy Horror Month and welcome back to The Forest! In part two, we analyze our second gameplay video where we continue the search for Timmy and find signs of him in the cave systems. In this episode, we talk about that creepy humming, how Timmy is managing to draw in the dark, and try to decipher a poorly translated clue. Also discussed, is the deepening of the missing children plotline, as well as the those alien-looking doors - how and why are they here?

Don't forget to watch or play along - gameplay is posted weekly on our YouTube channel! We'll continue to play The Forest and analyze it in our podcast - join us in the coming weeks as we try to solve the mystery on this hostile island.

00:00:00 --> 00:00:03 In this episode, we oddly find a connection to
00:00:03 --> 00:00:06 Yakuza. It seems we just cannot escape that franchise.
00:00:07 --> 00:00:11 Then we find an alien door. And also, how is
00:00:11 --> 00:00:14 Timmy drawing in the dark? Yeah, you have a point.
00:00:15 --> 00:00:19 Yeah. How's he doing that, Timmy? I don't know.
00:00:20 --> 00:00:22 Thank you for coming back for more replay reviews
00:00:22 --> 00:00:25 and happy Horror Month. My name is Leah. And
00:00:25 --> 00:00:28 my name is Kathy. We are two friends who are
00:00:28 --> 00:00:31 here to replay, review, and analyze your favorite
00:00:31 --> 00:00:34 video games. And since Kathy has never seen the
00:00:34 --> 00:00:36 games before, it helps me view them through her
00:00:36 --> 00:00:39 fresh eyes, almost like I'm discovering them
00:00:39 --> 00:00:42 again for the first time. We hope it'll be a
00:00:42 --> 00:00:45 similar experience for you. Well, should we just
00:00:45 --> 00:00:49 start in on scene one? Yep. It's gonna go real
00:00:49 --> 00:00:52 quick today. Um, day 100, question mark? I continue
00:00:52 --> 00:00:55 spelunking, if that's how you say it. Where I
00:00:55 --> 00:00:58 find a doll torso? Yeah, we don't like it. I
00:00:58 --> 00:01:01 guess it's a piece of Timmy's toy. Then we find
00:01:01 --> 00:01:04 a couple of children's drawings, which were in
00:01:04 --> 00:01:09 a cave. Timmy how? Timmy has night vision goggles.
00:01:09 --> 00:01:13 How is he deciphering the colors and then drawing
00:01:13 --> 00:01:16 with such... Precision. Exquisite precision,
00:01:16 --> 00:01:20 yeah. Oh, more finger decor. I know you love
00:01:20 --> 00:01:25 that. Then a camp containing a huge case of cash.
00:01:26 --> 00:01:29 laptops, and dead people, of course, including
00:01:29 --> 00:01:33 Yakuza members. One of them has his tattoo peeled
00:01:33 --> 00:01:36 off his back, hanging above him. Suckers. We
00:01:36 --> 00:01:39 continue on to find, hidden behind some boards,
00:01:40 --> 00:01:41 which matches one of the drawings. One of the
00:01:41 --> 00:01:44 drawings was of, like, boards with crosses on
00:01:44 --> 00:01:46 them. We find that, and we break the boards,
00:01:46 --> 00:01:49 and behind it we find another drawing, which
00:01:49 --> 00:01:53 is the stick figure holding a removed head of
00:01:53 --> 00:01:56 another stick figure. Timmy's seen some things.
00:01:57 --> 00:01:59 When does he have the time to draw this? Which,
00:01:59 --> 00:02:02 there's like a lot of logistical questions I
00:02:02 --> 00:02:04 have about these drawings. Like, aren't they
00:02:04 --> 00:02:06 going to smack the paper and the markers out
00:02:06 --> 00:02:08 of their hands if they see them documenting evidence?
00:02:10 --> 00:02:13 Timmy, you were in a plane crash. We saw him
00:02:13 --> 00:02:16 passed out, it appeared, getting scooped up by
00:02:16 --> 00:02:19 this guy. So are you telling me that he had his
00:02:19 --> 00:02:23 pen and paper on him? Like, he didn't have a
00:02:23 --> 00:02:26 bag. Did he say, can I go back for it? Like,
00:02:26 --> 00:02:29 why does he have it? Yeah, I'm wondering if there's
00:02:29 --> 00:02:31 more than one child. Well, we get hints to missing
00:02:31 --> 00:02:35 children, so. There's that. I'm just wondering,
00:02:35 --> 00:02:37 in the same plane crash, maybe there's other
00:02:37 --> 00:02:41 kids on the plane. Same situation. Okay, and
00:02:41 --> 00:02:44 then not long after that, I find a head with
00:02:44 --> 00:02:48 a cassette tape in its mouth. And then a note
00:02:48 --> 00:02:50 that appears to show the hole, the crater, whatever
00:02:50 --> 00:02:53 you want to call it. As I keep moving, I exit
00:02:53 --> 00:02:56 the cave. I find my way partway down said hole,
00:02:56 --> 00:02:59 said crater. But there's no way to, like, go
00:02:59 --> 00:03:01 up or down, so I just go in another cave entrance.
00:03:02 --> 00:03:07 And this is where I find a crucifix. And is this
00:03:07 --> 00:03:09 where I find the paper, too? Hold on. Yeah, so
00:03:09 --> 00:03:13 we find, like, it's called Latin paper. It's
00:03:13 --> 00:03:15 got, like, a drawing of the crucifix on it and
00:03:15 --> 00:03:19 of the crater. And then it's in Latin, so I can't
00:03:19 --> 00:03:22 read it. But I'm sure someone on the wiki deciphered
00:03:22 --> 00:03:25 it, so let me see. Yes, rough translation. Woman,
00:03:26 --> 00:03:30 four legs, multiplying serious. What? Excellently
00:03:30 --> 00:03:33 moist skin, pale complexion, the deep depressed
00:03:33 --> 00:03:36 rim. Some babies died. The uncle characteristics,
00:03:37 --> 00:03:41 meaty infants, dogs. Cross did not help. Traps
00:03:41 --> 00:03:43 did not work. And you ask with his own ways out
00:03:43 --> 00:03:47 of the mouth of the olinificus. Do not worry.
00:03:48 --> 00:03:50 How do we know it's the uncle, not the dad? You
00:03:50 --> 00:03:52 know what I mean? Or it's another male. What?
00:03:53 --> 00:03:55 Here's my gathering from that. We're talking
00:03:55 --> 00:03:59 about the Octolady. Yeah? Yes. And the babies.
00:04:00 --> 00:04:03 And she makes tons of icky babies. Tons of them.
00:04:03 --> 00:04:05 And then it's talking about, so I think they're
00:04:05 --> 00:04:07 trying, they think it's like some kind of demon
00:04:07 --> 00:04:10 or something maybe. And they were trying to use
00:04:10 --> 00:04:12 crucifixes. Maybe the missionaries did this.
00:04:13 --> 00:04:15 wrote this. Ooh, that makes sense. And they're
00:04:15 --> 00:04:17 setting up traps to kill it, but it wouldn't
00:04:17 --> 00:04:21 die. Yeah. The uncle thing, is this just a complete
00:04:21 --> 00:04:25 mistranslation, or was the Octolady originally
00:04:25 --> 00:04:29 a person, and was maybe like, I don't know, the
00:04:29 --> 00:04:32 uncle did something to her, attacked her, assaulted
00:04:32 --> 00:04:37 her, I don't know, caused this? I'm also, this
00:04:37 --> 00:04:39 might be a stretch, but is it more of like a
00:04:39 --> 00:04:41 priest, like you say, like Father something,
00:04:41 --> 00:04:45 like Father Martin. And then, but the Latin translation
00:04:45 --> 00:04:49 translates to uncle, maybe? Or maybe like a deacon
00:04:49 --> 00:04:50 or something that wouldn't be father, but it
00:04:50 --> 00:04:56 would be like a position of authority. I don't
00:04:56 --> 00:04:59 know, but I think we're pretty sure it's that
00:04:59 --> 00:05:04 octagon, not octagon, but octolady. Well, anyway,
00:05:04 --> 00:05:06 we'll continue to digest that, but I eventually
00:05:06 --> 00:05:09 make it all the way back to the very first. cave
00:05:09 --> 00:05:11 entrance, from last time actually, and climb
00:05:11 --> 00:05:14 back to the surface where I head home and replenish
00:05:14 --> 00:05:17 my ammo stashes before heading to bed. That's
00:05:17 --> 00:05:20 all I got for scene one. Yep. Alright then, moving
00:05:20 --> 00:05:23 on. The next day, I prep and head out again to
00:05:23 --> 00:05:26 yet another cave. This time I enter the cave
00:05:26 --> 00:05:30 I was earlier dragged into to explore, so I go
00:05:30 --> 00:05:33 deeper and find the head of Timmy's toy, also
00:05:33 --> 00:05:35 some chocolate bars, and then I'm later knocked
00:05:35 --> 00:05:38 out again. and hung up again somewhere in the
00:05:38 --> 00:05:42 cave. I cut myself free, pound some meds, and
00:05:42 --> 00:05:44 keep going, where I find a drawing of Timmy holding
00:05:44 --> 00:05:48 his toy. So Timmy, for sure, has been down here.
00:05:49 --> 00:05:53 And then deeper, a whole pile. A whole room.
00:05:54 --> 00:05:57 Oh, those creepy, icky baby things. But they're
00:05:57 --> 00:06:00 all dead. And they're all, like, disfigured.
00:06:01 --> 00:06:04 They're not, like, human babies like what we
00:06:04 --> 00:06:07 think. They're not normal. Yeah. But then, not
00:06:07 --> 00:06:09 long after, there are some live ones, and then
00:06:09 --> 00:06:11 their mother, I think we've established, the
00:06:11 --> 00:06:16 leggy lady, the octowoman. I then find some sort
00:06:16 --> 00:06:23 of cache, including a bunch of VHS tapes titled
00:06:23 --> 00:06:26 Lost Children of the Peninsula. Why is there
00:06:26 --> 00:06:29 so many cassette tapes and VHS tapes in this
00:06:29 --> 00:06:33 cave? It makes me wonder if they, like... stole
00:06:33 --> 00:06:35 them all from whoever like someone came here
00:06:35 --> 00:06:37 to make a documentary and then they made sure
00:06:37 --> 00:06:39 that none of them ever none of the vhs's ever
00:06:39 --> 00:06:41 saw the light of day it was like a cover -up
00:06:41 --> 00:06:46 to me i also am curious how are they getting
00:06:46 --> 00:06:49 all the stuff into the cave is it that humans
00:06:49 --> 00:06:52 that are alive are bringing into the cave and
00:06:52 --> 00:06:55 then they die or was this all happening above
00:06:55 --> 00:06:58 ground and those creepy monster things are taking
00:06:58 --> 00:07:01 it from above ground somehow transporting it
00:07:01 --> 00:07:04 into below ground how how is this stuff making
00:07:04 --> 00:07:08 its way here and how have we not seen any other
00:07:08 --> 00:07:13 like plane crash or other stuff above ground
00:07:13 --> 00:07:15 i wonder the same thing too and some of this
00:07:15 --> 00:07:19 stuff seems really old we find old gun ammo like
00:07:19 --> 00:07:21 stuff has been here for a while but how much
00:07:21 --> 00:07:23 is old and how much is new because we find like
00:07:23 --> 00:07:26 those old canvas tents But then at times we find
00:07:26 --> 00:07:29 those newer, like, backpacking orange tents.
00:07:29 --> 00:07:32 Yeah, like, those laptops seem relatively new
00:07:32 --> 00:07:35 compared to VHS tapes. So how long has this been
00:07:35 --> 00:07:39 going on? Right. We also find an autopsy report.
00:07:40 --> 00:07:43 I'll read it. It says, Office of North Pringle
00:07:43 --> 00:07:47 Medical Examiner. Report of investigation by
00:07:47 --> 00:07:50 Provincial Medical Examiner. Name, Jessica Cross.
00:07:51 --> 00:07:55 Homicide. Notified by sister. Investigated by
00:07:55 --> 00:07:59 Alan Balm. Multiple stab wounds and head trauma.
00:08:00 --> 00:08:03 Cause of death murder. Manner of death violent.
00:08:04 --> 00:08:07 But how is this note here? And why is this note
00:08:07 --> 00:08:11 here? I could see the humans brought it over,
00:08:11 --> 00:08:13 but why is this something you bring with you?
00:08:14 --> 00:08:17 Yeah, unless you're hiding it. Like covering
00:08:17 --> 00:08:20 it up again. But yeah, we also find in this same
00:08:20 --> 00:08:23 area. Red paint and a paintbrush, which is of
00:08:23 --> 00:08:26 interest to us when we pick it up. So are these
00:08:26 --> 00:08:28 not bloody people? They're people painted red?
00:08:28 --> 00:08:32 And if so, why? The thing is, if this was paint,
00:08:33 --> 00:08:35 how is it not all over the place? Like you would
00:08:35 --> 00:08:38 run into some of the cave walls or get some things
00:08:38 --> 00:08:41 covered in paint, right? If your fingers are
00:08:41 --> 00:08:43 covered in redness, how is that not staining
00:08:43 --> 00:08:47 more things in the cave? I think that's maybe
00:08:47 --> 00:08:50 a question for the summary. What the f*** is
00:08:50 --> 00:08:53 up with the paint? Anyway, I also find a bunch
00:08:53 --> 00:08:55 of dynamite and a modern axe. And then I head
00:08:55 --> 00:08:58 home. I will say that you're very strategic about
00:08:58 --> 00:09:01 color coding the cave entrances and the exits
00:09:01 --> 00:09:04 with the little stick things that you created.
00:09:04 --> 00:09:07 So just for our viewers to know, you're very
00:09:07 --> 00:09:11 strategic about it. I need to know which ones
00:09:11 --> 00:09:12 I've gone in and which ones I've popped out of.
00:09:13 --> 00:09:18 So I don't waste my own time. Scene three. Okay,
00:09:18 --> 00:09:20 well, as the sun rises the next morning, I head
00:09:20 --> 00:09:23 out again to investigate the cave that I earlier
00:09:23 --> 00:09:26 found by the tents. And not long after entering,
00:09:26 --> 00:09:29 we find missing passengers, another piece of
00:09:29 --> 00:09:32 Timmy's toy, and further on a VHS titled Opening
00:09:32 --> 00:09:38 the Artifact. Tone shift, right? Yeah, so immediately
00:09:38 --> 00:09:42 I'm thinking... pandora's box opening the artifact
00:09:42 --> 00:09:45 what exactly is it did it unleash some curse
00:09:45 --> 00:09:48 and that's why we're having all these crazy characters
00:09:48 --> 00:09:50 maybe this artifact is why so many people are
00:09:50 --> 00:09:54 coming in here i finished exploring the cave
00:09:54 --> 00:09:57 and head home to bed anything else on scene three
00:09:57 --> 00:10:01 for you no but a quick status check so yeah with
00:10:01 --> 00:10:04 all these monsters just kind of note taking it
00:10:04 --> 00:10:07 we got a couple jump scares that really freaked
00:10:07 --> 00:10:09 us out while watching this game There's one where
00:10:09 --> 00:10:12 I nearly spat out my coffee while watching it
00:10:12 --> 00:10:16 come out. Luckily, I didn't choke. So we have
00:10:16 --> 00:10:19 those things on fire. We have the lady spider
00:10:19 --> 00:10:23 thing. We have bodies or those weird monsters
00:10:23 --> 00:10:27 with multiple arms. We have blue people. And
00:10:27 --> 00:10:30 then we have those red bloody people. Which is
00:10:30 --> 00:10:33 apparently paint. But I do think there's a difference.
00:10:33 --> 00:10:36 I think there's like the cannibals. Those are
00:10:36 --> 00:10:37 what's above ground, and then there's, like,
00:10:37 --> 00:10:40 the mutants that are mostly below ground, but
00:10:40 --> 00:10:42 they, like, come out every so often. I don't
00:10:42 --> 00:10:45 know if they're connected or not, if they're
00:10:45 --> 00:10:47 on the same side or not. Maybe the cannibals
00:10:47 --> 00:10:48 are afraid of the mutants, too. I don't know.
00:10:50 --> 00:10:54 All right. Well, scene four. Another day, another
00:10:54 --> 00:10:56 cave to explore. And I'm kind of starting to
00:10:56 --> 00:11:01 wonder, is Timmy worth it? Strategically, you
00:11:01 --> 00:11:04 need to also start looking at exits. What do
00:11:04 --> 00:11:06 you do when you find your son? You bring him
00:11:06 --> 00:11:08 back to base, but don't you have to start wondering
00:11:08 --> 00:11:11 about how do I survive once I get out? Because
00:11:11 --> 00:11:14 the moment you take Timmy, I'm assuming all the
00:11:14 --> 00:11:16 monsters are going to start coming after you,
00:11:16 --> 00:11:19 so your base camp might not even be enough. And
00:11:19 --> 00:11:23 how do we get off the island? I guess he is worth
00:11:23 --> 00:11:25 it, so I go into the cave. I find some more missing
00:11:25 --> 00:11:28 passengers, another piece of his toy, and then
00:11:28 --> 00:11:30 not long after, another children's drawing of
00:11:30 --> 00:11:34 the pit? The crater thing? And then I obtain
00:11:34 --> 00:11:37 the rebreather, which allows me to explore underwater.
00:11:37 --> 00:11:40 There's a point where I pop up from the water,
00:11:40 --> 00:11:43 and I get attacked by the icky babies. They have
00:11:43 --> 00:11:46 no business doing that much damage. And how are
00:11:46 --> 00:11:48 they moving? Because they obviously aren't using
00:11:48 --> 00:11:51 their legs to move. There's a lot about those
00:11:51 --> 00:11:55 that I hate. Okay, but then further on, we find
00:11:55 --> 00:11:59 this, like, alien wall. Whoever designed it had
00:11:59 --> 00:12:01 to be, like, an engineer or something that, too...
00:12:01 --> 00:12:03 is it's like a pulley system and it opens up
00:12:03 --> 00:12:06 the doors elsewhere that the doors are at least
00:12:06 --> 00:12:09 like what i don't know 18 feet tall they're huge
00:12:09 --> 00:12:12 it's insane yeah obviously not a natural formation
00:12:12 --> 00:12:15 so now we're getting into things that are either
00:12:15 --> 00:12:18 man -made or alien made something i don't know
00:12:18 --> 00:12:21 but i i you know i go inside anyway and then
00:12:21 --> 00:12:23 on the other side of the door we see some skeletons
00:12:23 --> 00:12:27 that seemingly are worshiping whatever is drawn
00:12:27 --> 00:12:31 on the wall as well as a bible and a cross So
00:12:31 --> 00:12:33 what's in there that needs to be guarded? So
00:12:33 --> 00:12:36 I'm wondering if going into it gets you closer
00:12:36 --> 00:12:39 to the artifact? That's kind of what I'm thinking.
00:12:39 --> 00:12:43 But then who built that? Yeah, exactly. And why
00:12:43 --> 00:12:46 does it look like that? And how is it opening
00:12:46 --> 00:12:49 and closing? Yeah, with like the weight of four
00:12:49 --> 00:12:52 rocks moves those massive doors. Yeah. I don't,
00:12:52 --> 00:12:55 I don't know. But I think the missionaries have
00:12:55 --> 00:12:57 been here because we do find another one of those
00:12:57 --> 00:13:00 camps with the white tents, which I think. Are
00:13:00 --> 00:13:01 the missionary camps because there's Bibles everywhere?
00:13:02 --> 00:13:04 Mm -hmm. And for some reason, this time, the
00:13:04 --> 00:13:07 Bible is of interest when I pick it up, even
00:13:07 --> 00:13:09 though the other 15 times I saw one, they were
00:13:09 --> 00:13:13 not of interest. We then find a drawing of one
00:13:13 --> 00:13:16 of those leggy mama thingies. Mm -mm. I don't
00:13:16 --> 00:13:19 like it. It's not a Timmy drawing, though. It's
00:13:19 --> 00:13:21 like a real drawing, like someone really drew
00:13:21 --> 00:13:23 that. Again, how are they seeing? I guess fire.
00:13:24 --> 00:13:27 And how are they alive to draw it if they saw
00:13:27 --> 00:13:30 it? That thing saw you, but that thing let that
00:13:30 --> 00:13:34 person survive to draw it. Yeah, it was kind
00:13:34 --> 00:13:36 of detailed, so I feel like you had to be kind
00:13:36 --> 00:13:38 of close. I mean, maybe they killed it. Maybe
00:13:38 --> 00:13:42 they ran away. I exit the cave up through a pond
00:13:42 --> 00:13:46 using the rebreather. That's it. A lot of exploration.
00:13:47 --> 00:13:52 No direction on where Timmy is. More questions.
00:13:53 --> 00:13:56 No answers. I am surprised that there was nothing
00:13:56 --> 00:14:00 in the water to get us. Besides ducks. That would
00:14:00 --> 00:14:04 be really scary. I don't have anything else to
00:14:04 --> 00:14:07 say at this point. I just have questions. I have
00:14:07 --> 00:14:10 a lot of questions too. Happy continuation of
00:14:10 --> 00:14:17 Horror Month. I'm just going to end it. Gameplay
00:14:17 --> 00:14:21 comes out tomorrow. Watch it. And then next week
00:14:21 --> 00:14:24 episode. Part 3. And let us know if you like
00:14:24 --> 00:14:27 these shorter episodes too. I think... In our

00:14:54 --> 00:14:56 All right, I think we might as well put this
00:14:56 --> 00:14:59 episode out of its misery now. Okay, sounds good.
